Which Country Cuisine is the Worst in the World
Spread the love

To get to know about the different types and diversity of the cuisine and culture is most interesting. In today’s world and culture, we may experience and notice varieties of foods and cultures. But the taste of every cuisine matters as the cuisine is solely based on the nature of culture and social practices they possess. So It is subjective in reality whether the one cuisine is healthy or not. In this detailed article, we will discuss and provide a list of Unhealthy or Worst cuisine with respct to the experinces shared by different travellers.

Glasgow

I heard a discussion on the radio this week about McMonagle’s chip shop, on a boat in Clydebank, just west of Glasgow.

deep-fried Mars Bar one of the worst food cuisine

They fry a lot of stuff. Many will have heard of the Scottish delicacy that is the deep-fried Mars Bar. But McMonagle’s creation is the deep-fried roll and chips. A bread roll, buttered, filled with chips (hot, chunky fried potatoes), cheese, and curry sauce. Nice, right? And then they batter it and deep-fry it.

Here’s a picture – those are deep-fried pickled onions on the side of the plate.

Countries With Traditional Cuisines are Based on Sugar or Flour

We’ll just have to find countries whose traditional cuisines are based on:

And while pretty much all countries use that sort of stuff these days, only certain countries will see their core traditional dishes based on these ingredients since the beginning of their existence, while also not including native vegetables and fruit – possibly for a simple lack thereof in the environment at the time when these cuisines were created.

Argentina worst cuisine

So we are talking “young countries in agriculturally tough places whose cuisines are based on ingredients that were easily shipped,” possibly from a colonial culture of origin.

Let’s find some countries that were founded in the 1800s and did not exist as cultural entities before then, possibly because they did not even have any population before that time. The 1800s was when the sort of food listed above took off in a big way, thus forming their basis for creating a national cuisine, entirely without the benefit of locally available, native fruit and veg.

From observation during my travels, I would cautiously point at:

The standard understanding of “a proper meal” in a traditional sense in these places usually involves barbecuing large slabs of meat, followed by sweet desserts. And good luck getting an abundant variety of salads.

Of course, you can! Heck, it’s the 21st century.

But the point is, these cultures did not make healthy food their traditional cuisine.

New Zealand

When I was invited at the neighbours’ in New Zealand, we’d usually start off directly with a big barbecue (lovely, of course, and not unhealthy or worst cuisine as such), knock back a few bottles of Speights, Pride of the South, and there might have been a forlorn little iceberg salad parked nearby. In the end, a Pavlova cake was inevitable – lovely things that will give us a bit of kiwi fruit between bags of sugar. And before we celebrate the Kiwi fruit as New Zealand’s great source of vitamins, let’s remember that its official name is “Chinese gooseberry” and actually came to NZ only in the 20th century.

New Zealand un healthy and worst cuisine

And then, we have the pies, which are lovely, but the very essence of all the ingredients listed above.

Those pies are originally British, and take up much more space in New Zealand’s world of nutrition than they ever did in Great Britain. I had students who confessed to “having grown up on pies”, and certainly didn’t seem to eat anything else, ever.

Chile as One With the Worst or Un-healthy Food

But I think the ultimate answer to the question “which culture has the unhealthiest or worst food” is: The convenience culture of the 20th century. And that spans the entire planet.

This is the height of haute cuisine in Chile, the country with the highest rates of diabetes in the hemisphere.

American Samoan Culture

My vote would have to be for American Samoan culture, with its affinity for cheap, fatty meat cuts (such as mutton flaps and turkey tails), imported processed food, snacks and soft drinks, and fast food.

Most food is fried in soybean oil, high in calories and sparse in vegetables, consisting mainly of fatty meat and various kinds of starch.

Indonesia Worst Cuisine

You want our most popular junk food? Then you must try this one:

Martabak Terang Bulan (Indonesian Thick Pancake)!

It is ‘merely’ filled with chocolate sprinkle, crush peanut, sesame seed, Wijsman butter, margarine, cheddar cheese, and sweetened condensed milk.

Believe me, that’s the plain vanilla version. The modern version of martabak offers much richer topping… for better or worse. I’m talking about toblerone bar, nutella, Koko Krunch, Oreo, green tea powder, cheerios, pistachios, peanut butter, m&m buttons, etc. etc.

I have been to: US, Canada, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Aruba, Australia, Cambodia, South Korea, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland…. I don’t know why so many people don’t like Dutch food.

In the Netherlands I never find myself trying to avoid Dutch restaurants like how I avoid Korean and German restaurants while in Germany or Korea. They also have interesting things in the Netherlands like… paper cones full of mayonnaise and french fries.

Jamaica Foods

Before I went to Jamaica I would have said South Korea or Germany (both due to repetitive ingredients, excess amounts of meat in everything, lots of vinegar-tastes… completely different reasons than my dislike for Jamaican cooking), but Jamaica beats them both.

Jamaica worst Foods

Jamaica has the worst, most bland food I have ever had. The only good dish in the entire country is Jerk Chicken. That’s it.

For breakfast it is boiled bananas, boiled potatoes, boiled other stuff I don’t know what it is, and eggs. For lunch it is Jerk Chicken with peas and rice. The peas and rice are anti-flavor. I don’t know how Jamaicans do it, but rather than absorbing the flavor of the Jerk Chicken, Jamaican rice seems to eliminate the flavor entirely.

For dinner it is peas and rice with your choice of Jerk Chicken, cheap seafood, and maybe something else that is flavorless. Most visitors to Jamaica don’t leave the country with the impression that the food is bad because most visitors stay in an all-inclusive resort with 5 star restaurants.

When my family and I went, we rented a car and a house right before Runaway Bay, next to the Jewel Paradise. We had a long road trip the first day because our house seemed to have no address. I finally got a GPS coordinate on my phone, and we went to the police, and they showed us where the coordinate was.

Finland Worst Cuisine

Finland another country with the un healthy and worst cuisine

Oh well. Eating is no duty. If they think it tastes foul, then go ahead and starve. It is the same stuff served in Oulu kindergartens and comprehensive schools.

Finland Worst Cuisine

There are very few vegans in Finland, simply because it means a self-induced death sentence by starvation. Animal products are on heavy importance because they can be preserved and they contain a lot of energy and nutrients packed in the smallest volume possible. The only thing which is wasted from the cow is “moo”. We go to the wildwoods to pick mushrooms, not to get high, but to add in the pot. Most shrooms taste like vomit, but some are really delicious.

All in all, the question of cuisine in Finland has never been about “how to get this taste as good as possible”, but rather “how to squeeze as many calories and other nutrients in as small volume as possible”. Finnish cuisine tastes awful, but it is very nutritious – otherwise we would have died from starvation already during the Little Ice Age.

Mongolia Worst Cuisine

Mongolia must come the second – basically because of the same reason: nothing edible grows there. Mongolian cuisine is meat, pasta and kumiss. Extremely healthy, but not very tasty.

Key Takeaways

In a nutshell, we just explored some of the countries that have been playfully criticized for their cuisine. Keep in mind that food preferences are highly subjective, and what one person dislikes, another might enjoy. Here are some countries that have received mixed reviews:

Iceland: Topping the list, Iceland’s cuisine has been described as bland, boring, and overpriced. Some travelers have encountered dishes like “fermented shark,” which didn’t quite win their hearts. However, it’s essential to note that Iceland itself is a beautiful country .
England: While England has a rich culinary history, some Redditors playfully pointed out that despite centuries of global exploration, English cuisine seems to avoid using spices. However, fans of meat pies and “chippies” might beg to differ.
Australia: Australia, known for its multicultural population, has a diverse food scene. Some argue that authentic Australian dishes are scarce, but the country excels at adopting and adapting other cuisines due to immigration. And yes, they’re responsible for Vegemite .                                                                                                                              Mongolia: Travelers have found Mongolian food to be the overall worst cuisine globally. Boiled meat and fermented horse milk (mutton and marmots) don’t always win hearts, especially when spices and vegetables are scarce .
Kazakhstan: Described as having fermented horse milk, dried fermented milk, and boiled meat, Kazakhstan’s cuisine might not be everyone’s favorite. Some argue that the country’s restaurants lean more toward Uzbek, Uighur, or Dungan flavors .
The Netherlands: While the Dutch enjoy their fried foods with mayonnaise, some travelers find the overall cuisine lacking. Dishes like Frikandellen, Bitterballen, and Oliebollen are worth trying, though .
Russia: A traveler’s dinner at a Russian family’s apartment in Israel included chicken feet in a jello mold—a combination that didn’t sit well with many.
