Infidelity can be quite an open-ended term. Whether it involves a one-night stand, sexting, flirting, or even a secret lunch with a colleague, it essentially boils down to sexual or emotional activity outside the agreed-upon boundaries of a relationship.

To better understand the lengths people go to in order to satisfy their desires, Reddit user WCh3L3 made a post on the platform, asking, “What’s the wildest cheating story you’ve witnessed or experienced?” It’s an intriguing question, considering that many of us might not recognize the signs of an affair even if we suspect our partner.

Below, you’ll find some of the most memorable comments from the thousands shared in the discussion. Also, don’t miss the conversations we had with Dr. Janneke Schokkenbroek and Dr. Talal H. Alsaleem — you’ll find them between the submissions.

I knew a guy years ago who was a private investigator. Often, he was approached by spouses who suspected their partners of cheating.

He had a foolproof strategy. He would suggest his client sign up for a course, whether it was a hobby or educational. The key was that the class would take place over several weeks, always on the same day and at the same time.

While his client was in class, he would follow the spouse.

Caught them every time.

That sounds incredibly painful and deceitful. It’s tough to process such betrayal, especially when it involves such elaborate lies. How are you holding up now?

I know a guy whose wife was cheating with his cousin, who was also married. He found out and decided to have everyone over for dinner. Halfway through the meal, he looked his wife dead in the eyes and said, “I know you two are f*g,” right in front of the affair partner and his wife. The situation exploded, and everyone ended up getting divorced. Interestingly, the affair partners never got together either.

I used to go to a comic shop, and the owner knew all the gossip in the area. He was a nice dude who remembered all his regulars and checked in on people if he hadn’t seen them in a while. Many people in the area grew up with his shop, so he had plenty of stories.

One day, he told us about a regular who had disappeared for a few months. When the regular came back, the shop owner asked, “Hey, man. Haven’t seen you in a while. Where have you been?” The regular replied that he had been getting divorced and had to move—it was a whole thing.

Naturally, the shop owner asked, “Why are you divorcing your wife?” The regular explained that he had caught his wife cheating.

He had picked up a second part-time job as a pizza delivery man to fund his wife’s dream vacation. All the money he earned from that job was supposed to go into that vacation. He had been working this job for about six months, keeping it a secret to surprise her.

One day, he was delivering pizza to the motel where his wife was cheating on him. The guy she was cheating with answered the door with her right next to him.

He didn’t even go back to the pizza place. He quit on the spot, went home, packed his stuff, and left town.

A guy cheated on me because “my libido was too high.” Yes, you read that right. “You wanted sex so much that I needed a break by having more sex to get away from all the sex we were having.”

I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth repeating.

We were deployed overseas, and my buddy got the dreaded “dear John” letter from his fiancée. She included a photo of herself with another man to twist the knife a bit. He decided to have that photo made into Christmas cards for her whole family. About six weeks later, the letters and phone calls started coming in to the command. He went before the command, explained the situation, and shared the letter and picture with the higher-ups. They were pissed, but there was no punishment for him.

A friend of a friend discovered her husband was cheating when she arrived at the hospital to see him after a serious car accident. She was denied entry to his room because “his wife was already in the room with him.”

He had been living two simultaneous lives with two women, neither of whom was aware of the other.

My friend’s mom was in a long-term relationship with a guy, and they eventually got engaged, planning to marry. The guy was a senior director at a company and traveled abroad for business every week.

One day, the guy had a heart attack, and when my friend’s mom arrived at the hospital, his wife and two kids were already there.

It turned out he was already married with children, living a double life the entire time. When he said he was going “abroad” for business, he was actually returning to his real family.

I used to be a florist. One day, a guy came in and ordered flowers for two different women: his girlfriend and his wife. He put both orders on the same credit card, which he shared with his wife. Everyone in the shop volunteered to deliver them, curious to see what these women looked like. Later that day, the wife called to ask who the second order was sent to. Since her name was on the card, we felt no obligation to keep it a secret, so we told her.

Florists are generally good at keeping secrets, but in this case, she paid for the flowers. I’ve also disclosed anonymous sources if a woman received flowers from an unknown sender. I don’t want to be involved in a stalking scenario.

In a small town, the husband kept telling people he had an open marriage. Eventually, someone asked his wife about it, and she was completely unaware of this new arrangement.
